She tells him she has a much better chance of getting to Sonny as he needs her. Bob reaches out for Elly and holds her arms, she asks him what he is doing and he says he's just looking at her. She tells him to let go so she can finish packing. Bob tells her he his hopeless at saying what he really fells when he's around her but Elly says she's never noticed. He says he has to tell her something before they visit Sonny, and although this may not be the right time or place if he doesn't do it now he never will.
Bob: You know you've always thought of me as just a good friend?
Elly: The best.
Bob: And our friendship's very important to you.
Elly: It is.
Bob: And I guess that's why I haven't said before to you what I want to say to you now.
Elly: Are you sure this is the right time or place?
Bob: No but I'm going to tell you anyway. I'm in love with you. It's been breaking me apart for a long time.
Elly: Has it?
Bob: Yeah.
Elly: Why?
Bob: Because I didn't know how you'd react if I said it.
Elly: You're really in love with me?
Bob: I love you.
Elly: Really?
Bob: Yeah.
Elly: That's good.
Bob: Is it?
Elly: Yeah because you know something?
Bob: What?
Elly: I think I'm in love with you too.
With that all the years of waiting, wanting, wishing and hoping draw Elly and Bob into a passionate kiss. They are interrupted when Claire, Toni and Harley burst in through the door full of surprise and excitement. Bob tells them to stay at home as he and Elly have to go and do something. Elly gives Claire and Toni a kiss before she and Bob walk out of the surgery.
The Warehouse
Sonny watches Elly and Bob drive into the warehouse grounds. Bob asks Elly if she should stay in the car but she says she's sticking by him. Bob tells her once again that he loves her. They walk around the grounds and call Sonny's name. Elly tells Sonny they want to help him and Bob says he know this is just between he and Sonny. Sonny calls down from the top of the scaffolding and tells Bob to come up. Elly chases after Bob and tells him to be careful.
Bob reaches the top of the scaffolding where Sonny is and wonders what they do now. Sonny thinks they should just fight to the death but Bob thinks Sonny is in no fit state to fight anyone. Sonny agrees he's right and insists Bob doesn't come to close. He asks why Bob has come and Bob says this vendetta is between the two of them. He tells him a lot of innocent people have been killed and that it has to stop. Sonny says that he and Bob grew up on the same patch and that makes them homeboys, Bob says it doesn't as he would never do what Sonny has done. Sonny thinks Bob was lucky to find Jimmy McCabe and God and he gives Bob the gun to shoot him. Bob throws the gun to the ground and Sonny comments that Bob always sees the best in people. Sonny begins to climb higher up the frame and sees Elly on the ground; he calls to her and says it was nice of her to come. He tells Bob that if he returns to Westside he will go to jail for the rest of his life and be forgotten about. He doesn't want to be forgotten, he's spent the whole of his life trying to be remembered. Sonny tells Bob he's not going back to Westside, he's not going to jail and he's not going to kill any more people - he wants out. Bob pleas with him to come down but Sonny shouts up to the sky and says 'Hey God, I'm checking out'. He turns to Bob and tells him to watch out for surprises, he then jumps off the scaffolding and falls to his death.
Elly rushes over to him and Bob soon joins her. Elly checks his pulse and confirms that Sonny is dead. Bob takes Elly's hand and leads her away. As they reach Elly's car she turns around and sits on the bonnet. Bob asks her if she's ok and when she simply nods he tells her he will drive. As Elly makes her way to the passenger seat Sonny's 'Watch out for surprises' warning to Bob is heard. Elly opens the door and triggers a gunshot which knocks her over. As she falls to the ground Bob calls her name and runs around the car to where she has fallen. He continues to shout her name as he cradles her in his arms.
